On behalf of Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire and Derby City Centre Chaplaincy, welcome!

Did you know that nine out of ten people will not be in church on Sunday, but that nine out of ten people will be at work on Monday?  This is why chaplaincy is so important in our day and age.  Our voluntary workplace chaplains engage with people at work, with those of any faith or no faith, and have a key part to play in helping staff process complex situations, share about tough challenges, and speak freely about personal issues.  They are available to listen and support, advise, and where requested, to pray and share about God’s love for all people.

Our chaplains are out and about in the workplace every day, they are embedded in the social structures, getting stuck in to the nooks and crannies of a multitude of organisations, from football clubs to theatres, industry to schools, and care homes to the Police and Fire services.

On this web site you can read more about what we do, and you are welcome to contact me if you want to respond in any way.  Maybe as an employer, you want to discuss appointing a chaplain.  Maybe as an employee, you would like to meet with a chaplain.  Maybe as a member of a local church, you would like to explore what it would mean for you to become a chaplain.  Maybe as a local church leader, you would like to discuss setting up a town centre chaplaincy in your community.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was at the hairdresser and, in the midst of an enjoyable conversation, the hairdresser told her that every week two chaplains visit, that it was helpful talking to them and he described them like this: ‘They are a godsend.’

A godsend is a person who comes unexpectedly but is particularly welcome and timely, as if sent by God.  What a great description of chaplains! We are called to be a godsend, supporting people in the workplace, and it is our privilege to do so.
